The most common statement I hear from LinkedIn users is, “I’m on LinkedIn, but I don’t get much out of it.” There’s a reason for this. LinkedIn doesn’t drive itself. It needs an active, educated, motivated driver. If someone handed you the keys to a vehicle that could magically transport you to a room full of cash but the vehicle needed a little work and you needed to learn how to drive it once you got it running, would you just sit there and stare at it, or would you get to work figuring things out? I think you know what I would do. I’m not saying LinkedIn is going to transport you to a room full of cash, but it can definitely help find you new business or a new job.
At a recent Lunch and Learn I conducted for the Greater Monmouth Chamber of Commerce, a very interesting comment was made by one attendee to another. The comment was made to a woman who is actively looking for a job and the commenter was an employer who told her that the last three people he hired he found on LinkedIn. I was not surprised but many in the audience were. According to the recruiters I talk to, many head hunters and HR professionals are using LinkedIn as their primary source for locating new talent. With the discouraging unemployment statistics just reported for New Jersey for the first part of October, it would seem to me that more people than ever should be leveraging the power of LinkedIn in their job search.
If you are one of those people actively searching for a job or a business owner who wants to learn how to “actively” not “passively” use LinkedIn to find and nurture leads, I have two workshops coming up in Monmouth and Ocean County this week with you in mind.
